"The women are really starting to show their strength." Head Coach Tom Wilson shared after the race. "Most, if not all of the women ran a personal best college 5k time."
Top finishers of the women's 5K race included (JR) Laura Morrison who finished in 32nd place (19:13.3), (SR) Lauren Kotas who finished in 42nd place (19:29.4), and (JR) Bonnie Binggelli who finished in 45th place (19:43.3). Other strong finishes came from (FR) Hannah Kurbs, (JR) Julia Johnson, (FR) Stephanie Wojnowski, and (JR) Kara Hall who swept positions 49-52 (19:55.3, 19:58.0, 19:59.7, and 20:04.6
"The men's race plan was to tempo the first 6K to allow our top six to eight runners to build confidence." Wilson commented. "The pace of the race was very fast from the start so it was very important for the men to focus on their pace." respectively).
Top finishers of the men's 8K race were seniors Collin Mulcahy and Kyle Collins who finished in 48th and 49th place respectively (26:57.4, 26:59.6). (JR) Bobby Cooper finished in 53rd place (27:16.0), (JR) Cody Martini finished in 60th place (27:32.9), (FR) Joseph Northrup finished in 64th place (27:41.8), and (SO) Mitch Loiacano finished in 70th place (28:20.1).
"The season is starting to take shape for both programs." Coach Wilson said. "Both teams look very confident after the first two races. This upcoming meet at Rochester will be our first 'true' test. The men will get a great opportunity to show off their hard work. The women need to continue to do what they have done everyday thus far, work together, work hard and finish strong. This will be there first 6K, so staying relaxed and positive is key!"
This weekend the Blue Devils travel to Genesee Valley Park (Rochester, NY) to compete in the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational.
