Nick Serafin had the best finish by a Blue Devil on Saturday. He was third in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters (6 feet, 2 ¾ inches). He was joined on the podium by Derek Sunderland, who tied for sixth with a jump of 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10 ¾ inches).
Dan Sudyn was sixth and Jonah McGrath seventh in the triple jump, good for five points total. McGrath's 13.70 meters (44 feet, 11 ½ inches) was his personal-best.
Wright earned one point by finishing eighth in the 400 meters.
Marcus Torres, Griffin Dombroske, Matthew Erman, and Wright combined to finish sixth in the 4-by-400 meter relay, good for three team points.
The Blue Devils also sent out a 4-by-100 relay quartet of Torres, Wright, Dombroske, and Gus Alvarez Jr.
Kyle Egan participated in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Ethan Francis and Noah Watkins in the 5,000 meters, Aaron Cember in the shot put, and Cember and Sean McGee is the discus.
Fredonia earned 13 points Friday on the first day of the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field championship meet at The College at Brockport.
Jonah McGrath finished third and Gus Alvarez Jr. fifth, earning six and four points, respectively, in the men's pole vault. McGrath cleared 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches) and Alvarez 4.40 meters (14 feet, 5 ¼ inches).
In addition, Alvarez Jr. threw the javelin 43.57 meters (142 feet, 11 inches) to finish sixth and earn three points.
Alec Wright has the eighth-fastest qualifying time in the 400 meters with a time of 50.73 seconds. The final is 1:25 p.m. Saturday. Wright also competed in the 200 meters.
Other Fredonia men competing Friday were Marcus Torres in the 200- and 400-meters; Matthew Erman in the 800 meters; Dan Sudyn in the long jump; and Trent Howard in the pole vault
Kurbs sets school record in 10k at SUNYAC meet
Kurbs took the lead after the third of 25 laps and held it until four laps remained when she was overtaken by eventual winner Genny Corcoran of Geneseo.
Both women plus the next five finishers ran below the qualifying time for All-Atlantic Regional Track Conference meet May 15 and May 16.
The school record by Kurbs eclipsed Sarah Furman's 38:06.26 set in May of 2010. It was also an improvement on Kurbs's 39:02.29 last month at the Cortland Classic.
She earned eight of Fredonia's 12 points, with Cassie Serafin earning three and Maddie Sohl. Serafin finished sixth and Sohl eighth in the long jump with distances of 5.26 meters (17 feet, 3 ¼ inches) and 5.21 meters (17 feet, 1 ¼ inches), respectively.
Macy Brooks earned 1,849 points in the first four events of the women's heptathlon. Her shot put of 9.13 meters was third best among the nine multi-athletes in the event.
