Q: Where are you from?
A: Rochester, NY
Q: What event(s) did you compete in?
A: I competed in all the throwing events, except for the javelin.
Q: What did you study at Fredonia and what year did you graduate?
A: I earned a BS in Childhood Education, grades 1-6. I graduated in May of 2004. I stayed at Fredonia to earn my Graduate degree in Curriculum & Instruction, graduating in May of 2006.
Q: What attracted you to Fredonia?
A: I visited Fredonia two times. With both visits, I stayed with a hurdler/javelin thrower Kris Lickfeld. Everyone called him Boomer. He was a SUNYAC and State Champion in both the 110 hurdles and javelin throw. My first attraction to Fredonia was the success the Track & Field program had achieved over the past two decades. I met Trevor Hitchcock, Hall Of Fame thrower, and made up my mind that I wanted to throw just as well, if not better, than he did. He still holds the 35lb. Weight Throw and Hammer throw school records.
Q: Explain your experience as a Blue Devil.
A: I had nothing but positive experiences while a member of the track & field teams from 2000-2004. I do recall spending a great deal of time playing N64 and Playstation with my teammates, both in the dorms and at 13 Forest Place. I was one of three seniors to graduate having competed all four years.
Q: What were some of your athletic/academic highlights?
A: At the time of graduation, in 2004, I was on the Top-Ten list in the 35lb. Weight Throw and Hammer throw. I have since been removed from that list. My academic highlights include making the Dean's list four consecutive semesters. My fondest memory is that of winning the 2004 SUNYAC Championship in the Hammer Throw at SUNY Cortland my senior year. I also placed 6th in the Discus at the same competition.
Q: What kind of competitions have you participated in recently and how did you finish?
A: After graduating, I continued on with my throwing career. I was a member of the 2005, 2006, and 2008 Western New York Empire State Games teams. I earned a Bronze medal in the Hammer Throw in the 2006 Games held in Rochester, NY.
Q: What is your current occupation?
A: I am currently a research associate at the University of Rochester. I work for a non-profit agency called Children's Institute. We focus on early childhood education research within the Rochester City School District. I have published one book chapter with my brother Frank, and have written two technical report articles that have been published in empirical journals. I am also the Throws Coach at Nazareth College.
Q: What is your favorite motivational quote?
A: "Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered" Dr. Seuss
Q: If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: I would love to go back to Hawaii--the beaches are awesome!
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Any of the Rocky movies, including Creed
Q: What is your favorite (non-academic) book?
A: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Q: What is your favorite genre of music?
A: 80's hair metal
Q: If you could give any advice to our current student-athletes/recruits what would it be?
A: I told this to the athletes I coached at Fredonia, and to my current athletes at Nazareth College. Track & Field is my favorite sport because you get out of it what you put in. When you enter the circle, runway, or track, it is you against yourself . . . At the end of the day, you need to be able to look yourself in the mirror and judge whether you put forth your best effort.
Thanks Chuck!
