The Fredonia men's cross country team placed third of 10 teams in the SUNYAC Championship Meet held at Letchworth State Park on Saturday. The Blue Devils defeated Oswego by six points to take the third spot. "It was a very strong race for our men, they were patient, confident and never showed signs of panic" Coach Wilson. Sophomore Ethan Francis (Dunkirk, N.Y. / Dunkirk) was the top Blue Devil runner placing seventh in a time of 25:40.4 in the 8k race. His finish earned him second team all conference. "Ethan is racing and training very well, coming off a tough freshman year due to injuries, he is turning into the running I know he could" Coach Wilson.

The Devils placed three other runners in the Top 20. Graduate student Collin Mulcahy (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia) was 14th in a time of 25:55.1, which earned him third team all conference, junior Merlin Joseph Jr. (Binghamton, N.Y. / Binghamton) was 18th in 26:26.3, and senior Bobby Cooper (Macedon, N.Y. / Gananda) was 19th in 26:32.6.

The fifth runner to score for Fredonia was sophomore Cyd Scott (Carmel, N.Y. / Carmel) in 37th place in a time of 27:17.2. Following close behind were the Blue Devils displacement runners, junior Jack Erhard (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) in 39th in 27:24.0 and Zak Kellerman (Depew, N.Y. / Lancaster) in 48th in 27:48.9.

"Over all, the men set a goal to finish third and we hit that goal. Beating a team (Oswego) who has out run us all season long really shows just how strong and patient this team is. I am really looking forward to see how we end up at the 2016 Atlantic Regional Championships next weekend at Rowan University". Coach Wilson

Men's RESULTS
The Fredonia women's cross country team placed fourth of 10 teams in the SUNYAC Championship meet held at Letchworth State Park on Saturday. The fourth place finish comes against the 10th ranked Atlantic Regional team, Plattsburgh. Sophomore Brenna Donovan (Youngstown, N.Y. / Lewiston-Porter) was the top Blue Devil runner placing 18th in a time of 22:48.9 on the 6K course. Senior Bonnie Binggeli (Walworth, N.Y. / Ruben A. Crillio) was less than two seconds behind Donovan, finishing 19th in a time of 22:50.5. "Both Brenna and Bonnie have been training and racing very strong with one another and it showed again. Having our lead runners set the tone early was key!" Coach Wilson.

Sophomore Hannah Kurbs (Lockport, N.Y. / Lockport) was 24th in 23:18.4, sophomore Carly DeBono (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) was 28th in 23:24.4, and senior Julia Johnson (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) finished in 23:27.5 good enough for 29th place. "Our team spread was a very quick 38 seconds, this will help us in much larger races like the Regional Championships" Coach Wilson

Displacement runners were sophomore Stephanie Wojnowski (Rochester, N.Y. / Eastridge) in 32nd place in 23:32.6, and senior Kara Hall (Fredonia, N.Y. / Byron-Bergen) was 33rd in 23:35.5. "The team is so strong and so tight, our displacement runners out ran most teams scoring five!" Coach Wilson

"I am very proud of this women's team. I could not be happier with how the season has gone and how the season will unfold for us at the 2016 Atlantic Regional Championships in Rowan NJ next week" Coach Wilson.

This past weekend, the team took part in the Fred Ruterbusch Memorial 5K race as part of Fredonia's homecoming weekend events.  Overall, the event was a success as plenty of alumni made a return to campus along with Hall of Fame Coaches Everett "Doc" Phillips and Jim Ulrich to both run in the 5K and witness the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Phillips-Ulrich Community Trails which are located on Fredonia's campus. The trail system was created by donations from Blue Devil alumni.

The men's and women's teams both ran in the 5K as a tune up for the SUNYAC championships this upcoming weekend.  Leading the women's team was the duo of Bonnie Binggeli and Brenna Donovan and immediately following them was the pack of Julia Johnson, Hannah Kurbs, Emily Maguire, Stephanie Wojnowski, Kara Hall, Carly DeBono, Kelly Vincent, Kristen Guarino and Madison Courtney. Leading the men's team was the trio of Collin Mulcahy, Ethan Francis and Bobby Cooper followed closely by Merlin Joseph, Jack Erhard and Cyd Scott.
