However, as mentioned previously, Spencer's achievement was just the topper to an already great season for the men of Fredonia State. The weekend of March 1st and 2nd finished with the highest placing effort the program has ever had at the ECAC championships placing 11th out of 48 teams.
Hurdlers Eric Williams (Freshman) and Carl Caughell (Senior) both finished in the top 25 nationally in the 60m Hurdles with Williams finishing 16th and Caughell finishing 24th. Caughell was also named All-SUNYAC Conference Second Team for placing 2nd at the SUNYAC Championship meet. The only male Blue Devil to earn that honor.
Around the oval the distance medley relay of Freshman, Collin Mulcahy, Senior, Ron Wasik, Sophomore, JonMichael Knapp, and Sophomore, Zakk Hess turn heads by finishing the season as the 30th ranked performance in the country with a time of 10:18.51 and one of the fastest time in school history. Hess and Mulcahy also stood out this season on an individual level running top ten performances in the Mile and scoring at the SUNYAC Championships.
All together the men posted 17 top ten best performances in Fredonia State History, 5 of which were the 2nd best performances in FSU history, and 1 was a school record by Spencer Lefort in the Men's Heptathlon when he scored 4,949 pts at the ECAC Championships. A performance that didn't just break his own school record of 4,330 pts, but shattered both the former ECAC Meet record of 4,377 pts by David Hardison of Bates College and the SUNYAC Conference record held by Ben Depo of SUNY Plattsburgh at 4,622 pts.
As a staff we are all very proud of this years team and are looking forward to an exciting outdoor season. Great Job Everyone!
