Q: Where are you from?
Olivia: I am from Lockport, NY, a small city just about an hour away from Fredonia.
Q: How long have you been competing?
OK: I’ve been competing since my freshman year of high school, so this would be my seventh year.
Q: What attracted you to Fredonia?
OK: Well, Fredonia was a pretty familiar area for me for most of my high school career. Being involved with my school’s indoor track team, I spent almost all of my Saturdays in the fieldhouse. Originally, Fredonia wasn’t my first choice but after going beyond Steele hall and experiencing the culture of this campus, Fredonia quickly became my new home.
Q: What are you studying?
OK: I am currently double majoring in Exercise Science and Sport Management and will have a minor in Coaching.
Q: Explain your experience as a Blue Devil?
OK: For the past two and half years, my experience as a Blue Devil has been pretty awesome. Improving myself as an athlete, but more importantly as an individual has all come from being a Blue Devil and a part of this track team. I owe a lot of my personal success to this program; the team, the coaches, and the nature of the sport as well. Being a Blue Devil is incredible and I am blessed for having this opportunity to be surrounded by such a great group of people. Shoutout to my homie Tom for recruiting me!
Q: What are your athletic and academic goals?
OK: Personally for my athletics, I hope to place in the top three in the SUNYAC Championships for the pole vault. I always want to improve my own heights each week, so with every meet I hope to jump higher and higher. Also, I hope that our girls’ team breaks into the top three at SUNYACS. We have a good shot and that would mean so much to this program if we could achieve that as a team. Academically, I would like to be on the Dean’s List for my few semesters here left at Fredonia.
Q: What are your future plans?
OK: Right now, graduate school seems like the normal path to take, which I am considering on doing, but I’m not someone you would consider “normal.” It is a consideration but as for concrete future plans, I plan on travelling on volunteer trips around the world. I have one set up for this coming summer and hopefully this is just the beginning of what I will be doing with the rest of my life. Looking a little farther into the future and when the time is right, I plan on applying for the Peace Corps. On a less serious note and when I have free time in the future, I would like to explore my passion for dance. With that being said, I plan on auditioning to be backup dancer in a music video for a celebrity of some sorts. You have to have a little fun in life right?
Q: What is your favorite genre of music?
OK: My music selection varies based on mood and I can listen to almost anything, but hip hop/rap always seems to make me feel some type of way.
