The Blue Devils had one individual winner as sophomore Dan Sudyn (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West). Considered among the team's top returners, Sudyn went 13.72 meters (45 feet, 0.25 inches) to take down a field eight in the triple jump, including sophomore teammate and third-place finisher Jonah McGrath (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield)
The top sprint performance came from sophomore Michael Salvati (Avon, N.Y./Avon), who finished second in the 200 meters in 23.42 seconds. Salvati was also 14th in the 60-yard dash.
Also in the 200, sophomore Marcus Torres (Goshen, N.Y/Goshen) was fifth, and freshman Benjamin Helpert (Delmar, N.Y./Doane Stewart) eighth.
Another freshman, Alex Wright (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia), was a solid third in the 500 meters. His 1:09.00 was less than three seconds behind the event winner.
Fredonia's 4-by-400 meter relay team of Salvati, Torres, Wright, and sophomore Derek Sunderland (Owego, N.Y./Owego) finished sixth in 3:34.85.
Bursie wins season-opening 200 meters
Bursie broke the tape in 27.13 seconds, two-hundredths of one second faster than the second-place woman. She also finished fifth in the 60-meter dash in 8.16 seconds, matching her previous collegiate best. She qualified for the final with a time of 8.235 seconds, fifth best in the field of 28.
In the 500 meters, sophomore Sarah Buckley (Mineola, N.Y./Holy Trinity) was third in 1:24.27 and freshman Morgan Ashton (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro) fourth in a field of eight.
In field events, sophomore Cassie Serafin (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Depew) cleared 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) to finish fourth in the high jump. Later in the day, she went 10.91 meters (35 feet, 9.5 inches) and finished fourth in the triple jump.
Abriel Andrews (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger), a senior, placed third in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.01 meters (42 feet, 8.25 inches).
The quartet of freshman Ashton, Buckley, junior Kelly O'Hara (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), and sophomore Leesa Peterson (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) was third in the 4-by-400 meter relay in 4:30.06.
On Friday, sophomore Macy Brooks (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) competed in the women's pentathlon and earned 2,204 points. Her best performance was a second-place in the shot put with a throw of 9.86 meters (32 feet, 4.25 inches). There were 20 women competing in the five events
