Sarah Couperus (Marion, N.Y.), a junior, turned in the two fourth-place finishes in the jumping events. She had a high jump of 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches) and a triple jump of 10.26 meters (33 feet, 8 inches). She is currently No. 44 on the NCAA Division III high jump list.
The best finish by a Fredonia woman was by sophomore Hannah Kurbs (Lockport, N.Y.) in the mile. She covered the distance in 5:25.80 to finish third overall and first among a parade of Blue Devils. Next was sophomore Carly DeBono (Medford, N.Y.) in a personal-best time of 5:31.16. A pair of seniors, Kara Hall (Fredonia, N.Y.) and Julia Johnson (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), were ninth and 10th respectively. Hall's 5:37.43 and Johnson's 5:39.39 were also personal-bests.
Fredonia's next-best finishers were juniors Brittany Feldman (Jamestown, N.Y.) and Mikayla Capestrani (Jamestown, N.Y.). Feldman, a Southwestern High School graduate, finished sixth -- in a field of 58 -- in the 200 meters with a time of 26.22 seconds. Feldman's time put her at No. 44 in the Division III qualifying list. She's already No. 23 on the 400-meter list. In addition, Capestrani tied for sixth in the pole vault when she cleared 3.35 meters (10 feet, 11.75 inches). That equaled her personal-best and the No. 4 mark on Fredonia's all-time women's indoor pole vault list.
Other Top 10 finishers at Tiffin were sophomore Stephanie Wojnowski (Rochester, N.Y.) and senior Bonnie Binggeli (Walworth, N.Y.), seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 800 meters. Wojnowski's 2:26.73 was a personal-best. Also, junior Anneliese Bienko (Clarence, N.Y.) was ninth in the shot put with a throw of 11.76 meters (38 feet, 7 inches).
Other personal-bests were turned in by junior Rachel Williams (Lockport, N.Y.) and senior Naji McCallar (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the 20-pound weight throw. Williams had a top throw of 13.45 meters (44 feet, 1.5 inches) while McCallar's best was 12.79 meters (41 feet, 11.5 inches). Also, junior Miranda Warner (Westfield, N.Y.) long jumped to a personal-best 4.15 meters (13 feet, 7.5 inches).
The top finisher in the quintet was sophomore Ethan Francis (Dunkirk, N.Y.), a seventh-place finisher in the one mile run in a time of 4:29.15.
Next best was freshman Nick Gamble (Cheektowaga, N.Y.), ninth in the triple jump at 12:03 meters (39 feet, 5.75 inches).
Others recording personal-bests were sophomore Zak Kellerman (Depew, N.Y.) in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:35.69; junior Mitch Loiacano (Lockport, N.Y.) in the 800 meters in 2:02.97; and freshman Jordan Toland (Lockport, N.Y.) in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.84 meters (42 feet, 1.50 inches).
In addition, junior Justyn Haines (Albion, N.Y.) placed fifth the pole vault when he cleared 4.51 meters, and senior Kyle Brown (Hamburg, N.Y.) was ninth in the weight throw with 16.29 meters (53 feet, 5.5 inches).
