This past Saturday our Men and Women traveled to the beautiful Letchworth State Park to compete at the Geneseo (Pre-Atlantic Regional) Invitational and did so sporting a new look.
Dressed in our brand new customized Nike uniforms, the men and women fought and proved that they were better than what the region had polled them early this season, even after having the best start this program has had in over a decade. First to run Saturday were the women, the women took 10th overall, but finished 8th among regional or NCAA opponents. Highlighting the women's race was yet again, senior Kim Foltz. Kim ran an incredible race improving her 6,000m personal best by 10 seconds and breaking the FSU 6,000m cross country record previously held by former cross country National Qualifier, Jessica Bennett at 22:43. Kim also came away with the 12th spot, a finish that, if duplicated six weeks from now at the real deal, would qualify her for the NCAA National Championships in Hanover, Indiana. The men toed the line at 12:00 pm on the dot and off they went. Taking advantage of some strategic information made available from watching how the women's race unfolded, the guys were able to run arguably their best team race of the season finishing 4th overall and just 10 points back from 2nd Place. The top five of Chris Shartrand ('15), Zakk Hess ('15), Steve Whitemoore ('14), Collin Mulcahy ('16), and Kyle Collins ('16) made sure to never leave each others sight as they finished with a spread of just 29 seconds from 17th to 33rd. An incredible team effort that without a doubt will give the men their first regional ranking of the season. We are all very proud of the performances this weekend as they should only get better as we begin our taper for the championship season. The men and women will take a bye this weekend, and then will run once again at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College in Ohio on October 19th with the women's varsity race going off at 11 am and the men at 11:45. Great article Q! The men look stronger and more focused than ever! I'm really excited to see how the rest of the season plays out. Like I've told Kim, be happy for the accomplishments you've made so far, but refuse to be satisfied; there's still a huge part of the season left. Keep up the great work everyone!
