On Saturday, February 20th the Blue Devils traveled to Brockport for the Golden Eagle Invitational, the last tune up before the SUNYAC championships.
The team of Zakk Hess, Nick Watson, Collin Mulcahy and Kyle Collins set the tone for the meet by running 10:13.36 in the distance medley relay to win the first event on the track. Bobby Cooper was able to keep the momentum rolling by taking second in the mile with a time of 4:27.60. Also coming up big were Chase Towse with a fifth place in the 400 (52.42), Collin Mulcahy, finishing first among collegiate runners in the 1000 (2:31.71), and Merlin Joseph and Pat Shenal who took seventh and eighth in the 800 (1:59.23, 1:59.36).
In the field freshman, Nick Serafin jumped 6.39m in the long jump for a collegiate best mark and eighth place. Also with a new personal record was junior Joseph Gabrielli who took third place in the shot put with a throw of 14.52. Damone Brown took eighth in the shot put throwing 13.63m. Fredonia had a good showing in the weight throw where Sawyer Bell, Hsin Chin, Kyle Brown, and Kevin Geiser took first, second, fifth and ninth place respectively (15.90, 15.88, 15.27, 13.83).
The women also competed well. Brittany Feldman took third in the 200 (26.11) and won the 400 (58.68), both indoor PR’s. Also on the track was Bonnie Binggeli who finished third in the 800 (2:23.18), Laura Morrison who finished first in the 1000 (2:55.68), freshmen Hannah Kurbs, Stephanie Wojnowski and Carly DeBono took second, fourth and seventh in the mile (5:19.67, 5:24.47, 5:34.52), and running the 3000, Julia Johnson, Kara Hall and Madison Courtney placed fourth, fifth and sixth, all running personal best times (11:07.71, 11:07.71, 11:09.92).
In the field the Kristen Sawyer (3.35m), Mikayla Capestrani (3.35m), Olivia Kurbs (3.20m) and Julia Schreirer (3.20) took second through fifth places in the pole vault. Brianne Paganello placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 11.79m, and Sarah Couperus won the high jump with a height of 1.58m as well as taking fifth in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 10.71m.
