Behrend Invitational Results
"It's was great to see the men rally and not panic when Lake Erie College finished 1,2,3. We drew up a race plan and we stuck to it from start to finish." said Coach Wilson. The Blue Devil men proved to themselves that you can still stand on top without finishing an individual on top! The race at Penn State Behrend was a looping, hilly, narrow course. We took this into consideration and took control of the race early. The Blue Devils were led by Zakk Hess (jr) 25:54, Chris Shartrand (jr) 26:08 & Kyle Collins (so) 26:40. Through 6k, Hess and Shartrand found themselves in a battle with Lake Erie College's Nick Hall & Connor Gordon. Strong second halves of the race from Steve Whittemore (sr) 26:05 & Collin Mulcahy (so) 26:32 gave the Blue Devils the edge at the finish line. Rounding out the top seven were, Cody Martini (fr) 27:02 & Jed Kovalovsky (jr) 27:14. "Our top five spread of 45 seconds was great. We still have work to do through seven, but we dropped almost 40 seconds from the previous race". said Coach Wilson. The Blue Devils will look to improve on their spread again this weekend at the Houghton Highlander Invite. Behrend Invitational Results The Blue Devil women really showed they are going to make a huge push this season. "Each race and workout the women are improving, testing new waters and taking chances". said Coach Wilson. The women won their first invite in over ten years, with a strong early season showing against #10 ranked in the Mideast Region, Penn State Behrend. The race plan for the women was the same as the men, find each other and work together! Led by Kim Foltz (sr) 18:58, Anna Hourihan (sr) 19:26 & Amanda Cocchiara (jr) 19:38 the Blue Devils were able to cross eight in the top 25 at the finish. The womens top five spread was 54 seconds and 61 seconds for the top seven. Rounding out the top seven were, Becca List (sr) 19:45 & Alyssa Stroud (fr) 19:52. "This team is working so hard and smart, it will be great to see what they can do this weekend at Houghton". said Coach Wilson.
