The men were led by three individual event winners. Senior Zakk Hess won the mile with a time of 4:23.86, sophomore Bobby Cooper won the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.06, and freshman Rocky Caparro won the triple jump with a leap of 13.50 meters, or 44’3.5”. Rocky also scored 7th in the high jump with a jump of 1.83 meters, or 6’0”. Zakk Hess was joined in the mile by sophomore Pat Shenal (4:31.25) and freshman Jack Erhard (4:33.57) who took second and third in the event, respectively. Senior Chris Shartrand was the only other scorer on the track, as he took second place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:31.12.
Other scorers in the field for the men include freshman Mitch Paciga in the high jump (3rd place; 1.88m/6’2”), junior Sawyer Bell (3rd place; 14.88m/48’10”) and sophomore Kyle Brown (7th place; 13.88m/45’6.5”) in the weight throw, and freshmen Damone Brown (4th place; 13.71m/44’11.75”) and Brian Bernier (7th place; 13.29m/43’7.25”) in the shot put.
The top women finishers for the women included two second place finishes by freshmen Julia Schreier in the pole vault (3.35 meters/10’11.75”) and Brittany Feldman in the high jump (1.58 meters/ 5’2.25”). Brittany also took fifth place in the 200 meters with a time of 27.19. Brittany was joined in the high jump by fellow freshman Sarah Couperus (tied 3rd place; 1.48 meters/4’10.5”) while Julia was joined in the pole vault by fellow freshmen teammates Kristen Sawyer and Mikayla Capestrani, who took fourth and fifth respectively with vaults of 3.20 meters, or 10’6”.
Other women scoring in the field include senior Meghan Devine (4th place; 10.55 meters; 34’7.5”) in the triple jump, freshman Annaliese Bienko (5th place; 11.44 meters/37’6.75”) and sophomore Brianne Paganello (6th place; 11.07 meters; 36’4’) in the shot put, and senior Jenna Fiacco (7th place, 13.78 meters/45’2.5”) and junior Heather Rickman (8th place; 13.46 meters/44’2”) in the weight throw.
Scorers on the track were led by senior Hailey Griewisch, who placed 3rd overall in the hurdles with a time of 9.80. Her preliminary time of 9.72 was a season best for her. Other scorers were junior Lauren Kotas (4th place; 5:16.38) in the mile, sophomore Kelly Vincent (5th place; 20:28.38) in the 5000 meters, sophomore Bonnie Bingelli (5th place; 2:26.48) in the 800 meters, sophomore Alyssa Stroud (6th place; 11:33.61) in the 3000 meters, and junior Anna Dambacher (6th place; 1:02.17) in the 400 meters.
The Blue Devils will be splitting squad this coming weekend between Boston and Cornell. The David Hemery Valentine Invitational will be held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday. Those not competing at Boston will be heading to the Cornell Sunday Invitational held at Barton Hall on Sunday, February 15th.
