Head Coach Tom Wilson commented on this weekend's results. "The women ran fantastic for their first 6k of the season. They averaged a whole minute faster then last year's team at the same meet. Good things are still to come for this young and talented women's team. The men ran strong, however we missed out on an opportunity to beat some teams ranked ahead of us in the Atlantic Region."
The Lady Blue Devils finished in 8th place out of 20 teams in their first 6K race of the season. Top finishers included (JR) Laura Morrison who finished in 21st place (23:31.1), (SR) Lauren Kotas who finished in 29th place (23:47.6), and (JR) Bonnie Binggelli who finished in 52nd place (24:31.3). Other strong finishes came from (JR) Julia Johnson, (FR) Stephanie Wojnowski, and (JR) Kara Hall who finished in 63rd, 65th, and 66th place respectively ( 24:47.2, 24:47.6, 24:48.1).
"Laura Morrison leading the team in her first ever 6k was huge. Our scoring groups did a great job working together for the entire race." Said Wilson.
The men's team finished in 6th place out of 21 teams. Top finishers included seniors Kyle Collins and Collin Mulcahy who finished in 6th and 15th place respectively (26:17.2, 26:43.7). (SO) Merlin Joseph Jr. finished in 39th place (27:24.7), (FR) Joseph Northrup finished in 42nd place (27:30.1), and (JR) Cody Martini finished in 43rd place (27:31.2). Their finishes earned them a 9th place team ranking in the NCAA Atlantic Region.
Looking ahead to the next race Coach Wilson commented "The men's team is looking very strong and confident. This weekend we hope to have a tighter spread and not miss out on another opportunity to beat a regional team who is ahead of us. The women get another chance at a 5k, so I really want them to go out hard, and work together to get personal best 5k times."
The Blue Devils next race will be the Harry F. Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan College.
