The first day of competition began in the women’s pole vault where sophomores Mikayla Capestrani, Kristen Sawyer, and Julia Schreier all cleared 3.15m to sweep 4th-6th place. In the men’s pole vault freshman Trent Howard set a new personal best of 4.20m to earn a 7th place finish while sophomore Justyn Haines cleared 4.50m to finish in 4th place.
The Blue Devil throwers also had a big day with all men setting new personal bests in the hammer throw. Seniors Hsin Chin and Sawyer Bell took 2nd and 3rd place (54.72m, 52.09m). Chin’s mark currently ranks him 19th in Division III this season. Junior Kyle Brown and senior Kevin Geiser took 5th and 7th place (50.33m, 44.55m). Geiser also took 5th place in the javelin with a toss of 45.51m. On the women’s side senior Brianne Paganello finished in 8th place in the hammer throw (40.20m).
In the throwing events sophomore Damone Brown earned a 3rd place finish in the men’s shot put (14.33m). Sophomore Rachel Williams threw a new personal best (11.75m) to finish in 8th place in the women’s shot put. Sophomore Anneliese Bienko also threw a new personal best (39.66m) to earn a 3rd place finish in the women’s discus throw. And senior Hsin Chin and Junior Joe Gabrielli finished in 5th and 8th place in the men’s discus (41.08m, 38.83m).
